Accomodation
Trieste is a touristy town and offers many hotels and AirBnBs. The conference will be held during the off-season, hence, accomodation should not be too difficult to find and should be affordable.
Getting around in Trieste & to SISSA
To reach SISSA, take Bus 38 from Piazza Oberdan (exactly at the indicated pin) to the final stop (SISSA; see map on the right).
The bus runs every 15-20 min and takes 15-20 min to reach SISSA.
Trieste city center is very walkable. Locations a little further outside or up the hills can be easily reached via city buses.
Tickets can be bought:
add vending machines at larger bus stops
at Tabacchi (small kiosks)
on the App of Tpl fvg (Android, iPhone) - you need to scan the QR code on the bus to activate these tickets!
with your debit/credit card directly at the card reader on the bus if activated for pin-less payments: just hold the card against the machine until it turns green. Do this every time you enter a bus – at the end of the day the most economical ticket will be charged (single trips or day card).
with your phone at the card reader on the bus if activated for NFC payments; same as for debit/credit cards.
How to reach Trieste
Trieste is at the most Northeastern edge of Italy, next to Slovenia. It can be reached via Train from other Italian cities and from Austria and Germany; or via airplane to Trieste, Venice or Ljubljana Airport.
Train
Use the Trenit! App to find trains of one of the major railway companies (Trenitalia and Italo). Tickets can also be bought through the app. Be aware that depending on the type of train and company, you might have to get the actual ticket at machine at the train station or physically validate the ticket with one of the machines. Check the notes on the document you receive from Trenit!
Alternatively, tickets can be bought directly via Trenitalia or Italo.
For international trains we recommend checking and buying them via the Austrian Railway OBB or the German Railway DB.
For real-time updates on your Italian trains and possible issues or delays, enter your train number here.
